Restrictive Intervention Monitoring and Evaluation System

RIMES is our bespoke system for care providers to record and monitor their use of restrictive interventions and the incidents that lead to their use. It has been designed with the principle objective of helping organisations to reduce and eliminate, wherever possible, the use of restrictive practices.

RIMES provides a quick and easy way for users working in services to enter incidents and record when physical intervention or PRN medication are used. It then allows for large data sets to be analysed quickly and turned into reports to highlight a range of variables. RIMES reporting services are designed to be used as part of a wider PBS approach and can be used to provide valuable insights during practice workshops and other review procedures. RIMES provides crucial shared information for people working across an organisation (from direct support staff, managers, clinical / behavioural teams to the CEO) that can assist with data based decision making.

RIMES supports organisations to meet recommendations made in several best practice guidance documents around the use of restrictive practices.

  • Department of Health (2014) - Reducing Restraint Network standards

  • Royal College of Psychiatrists (2018) - Restrictive Interventions in Inpatient Intellectual Disability Services: How to Record, Monitor and Regulate. Technical report

What do RIMES users think about it?

“The RIMES incident analysis tool allows me to be informed, through real time reports and intelligent data analysis, with what is going on across my business and to make informed changes in care delivery.  The home managers, staff and commissioners find the incident reports clear and provide positive outcomes for the people we support.”

- Ian Coldrick, CEO - Creative Care

“RIMES has literally saved me at least 2 full days every month with regards to data processing! That means I can spend more time in services working with teams and the people they support. I can now get all the information I need in one safe place (and I no longer get phone calls from managers regarding broken spreadsheets!)”

The system gives me all the graphs that I need for my clinical work as standard, but the functions also enable me to search for any bespoke trends and patterns I might require on an individual basis”

- PBS Practitioner at a Care Home Provider

“The process for RIMES is very quick and easy to do, it doesn’t take long to load an incident report and also what I really like is the reports it creates as this shows areas that need to be looked into. It also evidences what further training is required”

- Supported Living Service Manager

Key Features

Provides a flexible and easy way to record incidents and key data on restrictive practices

Incidents in RIMES include:

  • Who was involved

  • Types of Incident and severity levels

  • When and where the incident occurred

  • What physical interventions and PRN medications were used

  • Which staff members were involved at the time

  • What behaviours were involved and may be linked to the incident

The categorisation of these factors can be configured to fit your organisation and our team are happy to help guide you on how to best configure the system to give you the best reporting possible.

Incidents are quick and easy to enter or edit as needed and are fully searchable by a variety of factors.

RIMES Reports provide useful, actionable insights at the touch of a button

Reports can cover an entire organisation, a single service or an individual person. RIMES reports can help highlight trends that may have previously been difficult to spot, such as:

  • Incidents occurring more frequently at certain times of the day

  • Incidents occurring more frequently at particular sites or involving particular people

  • Where physical intervention or PRN medication is being used or overused

  • What kinds of behaviours are leading to incidents and may be being managed poorly

  • Where certain staff members are involved in a disproportionate number of incidents and may benefit from focused training or coaching

RIMES is Constantly Evolving and Improving

We regularly collect feedback from users and encourage them to submit comments directly via the application. We use this feedback to ensure that RIMES continues to meet the needs of our users and their services.
